Writer Yasmin Alibhai-Brown, who published her thoughts on whether Muslim women should wear the full veil, debated this with the writer and broadcaster Myriam Francois-Cerrah.

They spoke to Jo Coburn and guest of the day Ken Clarke on Tuesday’s DP. — at BBC Millbank.

  1. Firstly, the host of the show kept on stopping you from completing your argument which I have found
    very unfair in this video. Secondly how many muslim women wear full face veil. My guess less than 1%. So Yasmin Alibhai is concerned that 20% of this 1% ,if not all,are subjugated, pressurised into wearing veil and are abused under the guise of veil. What an issue she has come up with? Don’t non veiled British women suffer abuse? Don’t non veiled British women suffer from domestic violence? Can Yasmin Alibhai guarantee that muslim women wouldn’t suffer from domestic violence if they take off their veil (i’m talking about 1% full veiled ones) and start wearing mini skirts. To veil or not to Veil oneself is one’s personal choice. We need to work hard to eliminate the causes of domestic violence and abuses whether its the veiled woman or the women in mini skirt who suffers from it.
